Water tank for a line pump

So i am pondering on the issue of a new water wash out storage tank for my pick up. I have been using a plywood minnow tank type with a bilge pump yes i know it sounds crewd but works great except for the lack of pressure volume ratio. A pumper really needs massive volume pressure.  My thoughts are : Get an old propane tank like 5 feet wide because i drive a 3500 standard dully. Then for pressure a 12 volt air compressor pump. Question is? would a 12 volt be enough air.. thanks

Think about big ed's or my rig. 250 gallons with a 2" quick dump to your hopper.I can fill my hopper to push out sponge in 30 secs. or  less. Or what about a trash pump with a plastic tank from tractor supply. T

I feel naked leaving the shop without my water tank full, and pressure washer gassed up. T

Thing is my truck bed is only 5'x8' so my space is limited. I would like to find space for a gas compressor but unless i put a flat bed on my pick up, there's no room. Some one said a 12 volt air compressor would work but untried yet.

We used a water tank just like the redi mix trucks use and a compressor from oasis manufacturing. Works relly well.

Just get a roller pump at grainger, and suction feed it from your tank.  You can either run it off a hydraulic motor and splice into your agitator hydraulics, or run it off a 12 volt electric motor.  Safer, and less space than compressed air.

you should be able to mount a PTO direct to the truck engine, you can use that to drive the water pump; I dont think a 12V electric motor gives what you are looking for

I have hooked up 12 volt pumps , two freshwater marine pumps , they do the job , but I am currently looking to upgrade to a 2 to 3 inch gas powered water/trash pump to give more volume and pressure.

I've got a good bilge pump to supply water to the back but not enough pressure. Good thing i added the water tank today the usual RM plant driver came as usual so dry he had to add 100 gallons to get a 6 slump and then of course ran out of water. I was able to scrap out then water wash my line pump with my system.

Here's a question: any one ever able to air push or blow out a ball and concrete with the concrete pump? My Reed seems tight enough to pump air.

Todays thought is to buy an electric pressure washer 120 volt. i could use it in the shop and 90% of my line jobs have power available. Just need to research (weed through the crap) and find a good one.

Will you still need to use redi mix water to fill your hopper after rinse out. Pressure washer wont put out enough gpm to do that. Also skip the 120 volt and get a gas powered one. Much more handy than finding power, also nicer around the shop. Possibly mount your water tank in your truck high enough to dump into hopper with some 2" line. I pump water with sponge now and never break down my line to clean out and it sure saves a ton of time. Just my 2 cents. Terry

Hey Terry, yeah i use my 2000 gal hr bilge pump and a 1" line to fill the hopper. I just need a good blaster to spray the hopper out without relying on the RM truck. I like to try to keep it as simple as possible. Still looking for the best simple design. A 12 volt pressure pump would be nice but not enough horse power. Air or gas i supose.. Just don't have the room.

I can't believe you guys remembered Big Ed I had a one of a kind trailer rig and the guys that own it now are still using it but sometimes I wonder how since they don't take care of it like I did

Yup Big Ed  you had the ulrimte set-up. Don't think Brian wants to take his off of the axles and make a self contained unit.

no i pride myself on simplisity. I don't have room for a moving shop :-)  My bilige pump supplys water at a great rate just not a hard pressure. I'm thinking a rubber scrap out tool for the S tube would help. Any one use a bendable type tool to scrap out their S tube?
