Water Warshing

I tried water warshing today.  The amigos I was working for today was using my nerf ball for a kick-ass socker game.  When Julio broke past Evander and Ferdinand with the ball, it was only he and Pablo - the goalie.  Well, Julio scored and my nerf ball flew down a revine, into a creek and... it's just gone now.

Without my ball I'm at a loss for warshing out.  So, I tried water warshing.  It went OK 'cept had some left over in the deck pipe.  Pa said to do it like I did my 2001 Thomsen.  Here's what I did:

1. Pump hopper down 'till she burped a couple times

2. fill with water

3. Shift pump into next gear down

4. pump 2 strokes and keep filling with water till full

5. Put ogger in reverse

6.  pump in forward 2.5 strokes full volume

7. then slow down volume to regular pump pace

8. put ogger back in forward

9. pump until water comes out of the end hose

10. put pump into reverse

11. stroke in full volume

12. stop ogger

13. when water comes over the hopper pump forward 4 or 5 strokes

14. switch pump to reverse and pump until water over flows again

15. put ogger in forward again

16. put truck back into higher gear

17. fold up and move to warsh

I'm gessing the Thomsen tecknique isn't the same as my new Pootz.

Any ideas?

Thanks-

Jedidiah

WOW that sounds like a horrible way to do it!! Here is what I do...

1).A-Frame the boom

2). pump hopper down as far as possible

3).Turn auger and vibrator OFF!

4).Fill hopper with water

5).take ONE stroke in forward SLOWLY

6).Fill hopper agian.

7).Bring RPM's up nearly wide open

8).Turn volume up all the way

9). With my 47m I take 14 strokes,This gives me two good blasts of water out of the hose

10). Imediately switch pump into reverse,When you get air bubbling up in the hopper fold her up and go was down.

After you get moved to the wash out and open up the swing 90 you will have about 2 inches of mostly sand with some rock in it if thats the case GOOD JOB!

I have water washed this way for 3 years with not one issue!! works every time for me!!

try sucking a bucket instead.   works great with putz, or clones.   get a sheet of plywood to cover hopper. fill 30 gal garbage can or old admix drum with water.  pump down hopper and keep pumping slowly raise volume to max.   when you get all you can pump out put pump in reverse and put end of whip in bucket,  suck till it wont lift no more, raise hose out of water keep stroking till water burps in hopper.   ring deck pipe just above reducer.  if rings like bell your golden.  if not tske 3 strokes forward then reverse put back in water and go again, never takes more than 2 times, faster than taking off reducers and hose to suck sponge and much less water than water wash.  I can wash my 46 twice like this without filling water tank.   Last mixer is always willing to fill bucket.

Carry a spare sponge

Jed-

Maybe just leave it in the same gear and don't worry about the auger.  Never pump in forward after you've sucked everything back.  It's not like your Tommy.  All the rock and sand is in the bottom of the pump, so pumping forward only loads your deck pipe.  The auger in the Tommy keeps everything pulled away from the barrells - that's why you can run water up and down the boom several times.  It's a no-no with your 'Pootz'.

Pump On Jed! Sounds like you got 'er figured out, and if you're getting your water back and the deck pipe rings that's all that matters? Keep on doin what you're doin! I still love them "BiGFeeTs"

Better just leave him be Raymond, He dont need no hot-shot city folk muss'n up his program and correct'n his grammar. Sounds like Jeds got hiw own routine down?

got a couple of issues here:1. this seems like a bit of overkill on the water front? 2. surely theres an enviromental thing here? and 3. this must be like a game of russian roulette .. one day its gonna go tits up and leave you breaking the boom down to clean out a load of half washed crete?

Personally I water wash back into the last truck. Fact is I cover the hopper pump down and let the last driver wash into me. Scraping the chute clean ofcourse before covering and, pumping down. Then I fill with water pump it till it burps then go into reverse. Nice and easy.  If you end up with a mess in the deck pipe you can push it forward some then reverse it. I have rarely had it stay in there. The boom needs to be up of course.

Looks like that is about a 32m boom.  You should not have any trouble washing out with only enouth water to fill the hopper.  Turn off the adjitator, I never water wash on full volume, just full rpm.  I stroke til I get water and then suck back.  when the water air bubbes hard, stroke forward four times forward then back again ( this helps to clean out that deck pipe a bit more).  As I suck back the second time, I turn the adjitator back on just to mix up the finds and usually the stuff left in the hopper flows out without much of a wash.  If you ever do rock pack in the deck pipe, Empty the hopper , transition, and pressure pipe.  Refill the hopper with clean water and rock it back and forth.  It will come out.  You may have to repeate the empty the hopper and refill with clean water but you usually do not have to break pipe off the truck.

I see you got some good replies.I think I used a sponge twice in a year. Water "warsh",washing is not so messy.Anyway after you pump back don't pump foward.Probably why you had rock in your deck pipe.

There is no way you water washed your thomsen like that!

your pa's method is horrible and would not work on any pump made......sorry......maybe you missed a step...or had too many....

who's description of a water wash is pretty close to what I do,except I don't have it cranked all the way just at 4 and as soon as I see water I hit reverse and I've only had 2 problems ever in 10 years. but the key is your deck pipe must have FALL or it will pack in your deck pipe.
