I don't know, Fish. One thing for sure, he doesn't have his head in the game.

Hmm correct me if im wrong but it looks like the opertor pays no attention to the side he closed up on the day before (Thats what i can make out )..

Simple either sack the bum , kick your own arse for no educating him or put a blocker on your slew ring ....

thats a good one Bob, but they're more like computers:

you got to keep punching information into them!

but seriously, you do have to confront the guy.

for what its worth, we have a guy (nameless) that likes to take the pump out of the shop and work on his skidoo.

with the water box full of water and minus twenty!!!

i feel your pain!!

well, my policy in the past is to first find out if the turett signal or anti-rotate device was working properly(if equipped with one). If it has one and wasnt working then the operator has a legitimante excuse. If it doesnt have one then the operator made a mistake and i get the operator to go in the turett aand do the dirty work to help him/her remember the mistake. Has worked well for me over the years.

What the hell is it?

It is the result of........ when running a boom with a center bearing [big 'Rotec' style turret] with the boom hoses in the center......... if you don't really care about the machine, the customer or the company you work for......... just swing the boom without first glancing down in the turret and seeing which way the hoses are wrapped. For a guy that is used to running a boom with a rack and pinion [like yours] where the hoses are on the outside, well, this kind of thing could happen. But a guy that runs one of these machines on a regular basis - THIS IS A DUMB-ASS STUNT!

It takes less than 60 seconds to check, and more than an hour to fix. OH, and don't forget the cost of all of the new hoses.

MOST, not all, companies that run this style turret have ALL of the operators ALL of the time fold them back up over the same side ALWAYS. I wonder what the company policy was at this company? I wonder what it will be on Monday? ;~)

Those limit switches are a joke. You could be up there washing your pump and flick it to the other side of the stop block very easily. Check - verify. 30 seconds

Must be the dummy switch broke. isnt that what most of the safety switches are for so the operater doesnt have to think anymore

Bob

I agree that the limitsiwtch devices or signals do not replace proper operator trainig and shouild never be incorperated into operator safety  training. However remember that rack and pinion by nature of desgn cannot go too far the wrong way, therefore i think to say limit swtches are a "joke " is a little harsh. They are operating "aid" and not a failsafe. That being said  i still agree that you can never underestimate the power if laziness.

It is operators like this that make it hard to get raises, when the company is spending money to replace hoses, time, labor, maybe back charges for lost concrete.I say get a PINK hardhat that has ROOKIE written all over it make him wear it on his next job, that way the customer knows hes the idiot not the company.
