Around 1930 German based company Torkret made the first ever concrete pump. However the patented idea was there about 20 years earlier in the USA.

China, Korea, Turkey, Australia, USA, Holland, UK, Germany, France, Italy, India, Brazil, Spain, Russia, all have capabilities of manufacturing concrete pumps.

Im not sure about Holland though.. Im from Holland but I could not mention a manufacturer from there. But please correct me if im wrong!! (we do make great trucks though!! DAF)

But didn't it take up to about the early 70's before the concretepumping became serious? And even then the machines where a pain in the ass to work with compared to what you get now. But it should be quite easy to find some more on the web about this also. Have you tried wikkepedia? or home site of schwing and putzmeister? You didn't get much response from the veterans on this site i see. I am only a young guy so I don't know so very much about the history.

Tippical actualy. You asked us for info earlyer with very little result..

Post some pictures with some bad set up or a double 90 and all the 'experts' are right on top of it. But when someone asks a real question where the 'experts' could go wild giving all the info they have NO ONE responds. Only Todd makes use of the situation to advertise all his links.

Sorry guys. Just noticing...

ConcretePumping.com has spent a lot of time and money on safety. We also have a few realy great experts who are willing to answer any safety related question. We have spent no time or money on the history of ConcretePumping I might take on this project soon.

I am not saying that i don't have any knowledge of our history. What i am saying is that i have not spent the time or money to have the history written down. Its not a simple project.

Ok. True Todd. And its also not our/your job to educate everybody. But I am sure there are some guys regularly commenting on stuff on this site whom can easely fill a few a4 papers with nice storys about concretepumping.. But they don't bother. They rather spend their time complaining about small details on pictures from other operators. But it was just something I noticed.

Maybe you should call the site www.concretepumpsafety.com?

;-)

I've looked into it quite a bit. It seems that the best info is in the international patent archives. Tons of legit info that shows Who built what and when and the entire mechanical evolution of concrete pumping, one patent improvement after another.

The earliest patent for a dual piston concrete pump was applied for by an American who was in Panama working on the canal. The man died before the patent was issued. A few patent 'improvements' were issued to a German on the valve which was originally called the 'RockingValve' by its original designer. Before this, Germany had little to do with concrete pumps besides a few auger drive and squeezer designs.

I cant read Italian but Italy has been 'spraying' mortar with piston type pumps for over 100 years. And claim that they've been pumping actual concrete for over 80 years.

I believe the Romans had a slave powered mortar pump in their day

The first patent was issued about 1912

There have been some weird and wonderful valve and hydraulic systems designed in the process  of giving us the great machines we have today.
