I do know that salt degrades concrete,in one of those situations where you have to "kill" your hopper do you think salt will work?

In my opinion i don't think it will. Sugar yes, in the old days i remember spilling a mountain dew on the mud whille trowling edges in so FL ,and man it would leave a hole. in MN they use calcium chloride for an add mixure. Chloride is a main ingredient in salt.

True Brian I am thinking of salt as being an accelerator.

Calcium Chloride is an accelerator in concrete.  IE: A Cataylyst.  (Remember your high School Chemistry?)  Cement is a Calcium Silicate compound made from Limestone: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portland_cement

salt/sodium chloride is very abundant in our bodily fluids, doesn't too much salt in your diet make you retain fluid?

I was told that concrete hardens quicker in salt water.
