Rook,My point was that nothing should EVER come out of the discharge end but concrete. To intentionally pump anything else out of the discharge end is looking for trouble.PREVENTING THE PREVENTABLE PROBLEMS ;) |

Young Pup good job in getting it clean! I have a pump company here in the central Colorado mountains, we pump year round in below temperatures. When the weather starts to get 20 degrees above I have my guys insullate the booms with 6 foam insullation. When you are waiting on concrete you can recirlcelate your concrete every 5 to 10 minutes, or more often if it is colder. What happens most of the time is the wind kicks your ass! In the future if that were to happen again fold up and take it back to the shop where it is warm and let it defrost, put air to it with your transition open. Sit back and drink coffee it will break loose most of the time. I know it sucks I go through the same thing once a year with a new guy! The coldest we pumped concrete this year we had a week that it averaged 20 to 30 degrees below with wind. If you like pumping concrete in cold climates part of the year give me a call I am always looking for good young help. My ad is in the classified section of this web site. |

Speedy why do you not water wash in cold temps if you have warm water? I water wash year round, I just hate to mess around with dropping your tip hose and disconecting it to put in a sponge. By this time my hands are real cold! |

I pumped in the cold a little too often to even want to talk about it but some of the basics are what |

No, it is not real good. It is however real good for the pumper. Polar set & calcium are good for the finishers, and every once in a while they help a pumper keep from freezing a boom....... but I think we deserve a weapon that is just for us. Antifreeze! You can use it in the waterbox (Hydraulic oil is better) and you can use it in small quantities on the prime that does not go into a pour. And you can use it to soak your sponge in. It never hurts to have a thin film of A-freeze on the inside of your pipes. ;) |

not to change the subject but have you ever pumped 200 , 300, or more feet down a 1.5 to 1 grade bob?You better have something infront of the concrete or your day will be long!Rook, My point was that nothing should EVER come out of the discharge end but concrete. JJ good point, but what BOB is talking about is the boom, not a line downhill job, which you are right for that application you need something.I believe as Operators with a little more time than the average behind the controls need to be a little cautious of what we say here as there are presumably younglings who are just getting to know how to pump concrete reading this information. At OTC we won |

Thanks Marcus, that was exactly my intent and meaning. ;)JJ, yes I have My second day on the job as an operator was a 1500 foot down hill pour. I learned, by my self, about something in front of the grout & concrete (a wadded up news paper) Also about kinking the end hose between trucks. Sorry if you misunderstood me. I was refering to booms. This message was edited by Bob on 3-21-06 @ 10:07 AM |

I am just a guy that started pumping in 1969 and loved every bit of it. I have had many jobs in the bizz. The one I was the worst at was being a salesman. Please let me say never. It is so definitive and cut to the chase. And if a comment is kept within the context of the thread, or conversation it is less likely to be misunderstood or ill-applied. ;) |
