A 46-year-old man has been fatally crushed by a concrete pump at the site of the former Pentridge Prison in Melbourne's north. The father-of-two was smoothing concrete on a first-floor building at the Coburg site when one of the pump stands sank into the mud, causing the machine to tip, a WorkSafe spokesman said. The pump's full hose hit the man, knocking him into the wet concrete. He suffered serious head, chest, abdominal and shoulder injuries, Ambulance Victoria team manager Rod Crole said. "The man's work colleagues pulled him from the wet concrete and called an ambulance," Mr Crole said. Paramedics attempted to revive the man for 45 minutes but he died at the scene. Emergency crews were called to the construction site on the corner of Stockade Avenue and Pentridge Boulevard in Coburg around 11.10am. CFMEU Victorian OH&S manager Gerry Ayers said the union had provided counselling for the man's "shattered" coworkers. WorkSafe is investigating the incident. |

is sad. N006, hoping is not enough. everyday on site for me is going to a casino. i have routine, knowlegde(manuals, experiance(mine and others), forums, advice) and rituals to help put the odds in my favor. never forgetting the houses 0 and 00. risk is part of the job site. am i doing my part to reduse risk to myself, others relying on my judgement or they dont know any better? if god forbid someone was to die on site involving the pump i am "Responsible" for, i want to be able to look the mans wife in the eyes. |
