Who all works with family? I know I do. While me and my uncle, AKA The Hammer, work great together, everyone sees me as the bosses newphew. I have to do the work of like 8 guys to please some of the crew leaders. Most of our crews are great, but a few, I dont like to work with. I am the pump guy, I pump concrete. I have no carpantry skills, and I am a horrible laborer. When I work on a Mason Crew, the crew leader trained me on the forklift because I was better at that. Long story short, the other day, one of the leaders, a mason doing carpenty work, apperenty got pissed at me because I washed out close to where he told me, but not in the exact spot becasue there was nice grass there, so I opted for a spot a few feet away in the dirt, and left a piece of plastic with some mud on it where his 6 slump clugged my pump. I had offered to clean it up, but was told that they would get it. He was apperenty most upset becuase I had no other pumps that day and did not offer to help them finish up the day, doing whatever it was they were doing. My uncle was telling me about this, and said to just stay and pick up their crap to the point where everything is put away for them, if you dont have somewhere to be. Which is frustrating, because I do work harder than most of the guys out in the feild, even if it does not look like it. Yeah I dont run the end of the hose that often because the laborers are supposed too. I will if I have too, like taller spots where most of them cant reach or someone is over working themselves. If they really want me to run the end of the hose, then just send eveyone else home, because they can never keep up with me. I can handle 150' of 2" line myself, when it takes 4 laborers to do it. I know most of you guys work for pump company's that guys like us hire. So how do yall do it? I usally end up setting everything up, including hoses most of the time all by myself in about an hour. I run the pump, not the end of the hose, but help drag hose. I also clean up by myself and load everything in my massive truck. If there is say 200' of hose needed, I pretty much tell the guys they are gonna help. I get it out of the truck or whatever, but there needs to be at least one guy helping so we can get it done quickly. Same with putting it away, get it to the side of the truck and I will handle it from there. And there have been days where we were using the 3" system, that I unhooked, blasted the hopper with water and tore out of there to get to another pump, leaving the crew to clean the pipe and load it on a trailer. If thats any different than what yall do, I am open to ideas on how to do things. And remember I dont get paid as much as a normal pump guy does, because I am the boss's nephew. |

Don’t over think it. Sounds like you work hard and at the end of the day this is all that matters! Good thing they washed out the line for you! That could have been a real bad day….. |

The truck is what is. We are not in a spot were we could get another one, let alone fix what we got. There are 5 trucks in the shop right now, mostly blown engines, that need to be fixed. Yes I have an air compressor for all kinds of things. I try to not blow with air if I can. And I have 400' of water hose, so water is never an issue. And like I said, I work within our own company, and they are supposed to help me some. |

I tried sucking back once, did not work so well. Yall feeling sorry for me was not the point I was trying to make. I guess yall dont really understand what I am talking about. Not only do I need to be a pump guy, I need to be a mason, carpterner, and anything else the crew leader wants me to do as well as pump, just because I am related to the boss. And I am supposed to be good at those things. Not that I dont try or work hard, its that I am expected to know it all, because I am the boss's nephew. |
