Latest news from the show is that a giant pump company has told both KCP and SANY that if they put a Sig Alarm electrical proximity device on there pump that no one will buy there pumps.The bad deal is that i think they are askared of the big pumper and wont put the warnning system on. So now there aint no way that we get to have that system on are pumps which i think is bu-- sh-- |

Some places they shoot the messenger. If that is true then it sucks. I didn't go to the show; it sounds like you did. Who was the pump owner that said that? |
||

Well thank you for the info, that does suck Bob. I'm curious who would say that. I can't wait to see tons of pictures from the show. |

IF is a big word If it is true that means that someone on the ACPA board of directors probably said it. I don't think much of that idea at all. We (ACPA) are suppose to be all about safety. I know that Sig alarm works better than the One touch system so don't tell me they dont want it because it isn"t 100% effective. Todd is at the show, he will know what is going on... and get us some pics ;~) |

Exactly what is a SigAlarm? Is it like a proximity sensor for powerlines and such? |
||
Bob | 01-22-2008 | reply profile send pm notify |
Weave, If you look on the left side of the site you will see a heading "Consultants" Click on that and then scroll all the way down to the last one. Click on 'Experts Resume' and you will see a better explanation than I can give. I know that these devices work; they save lives. H.B. Zachry, a very large Texas company used to boom into power lines on too regular a basis. Two or three years ago they installed thede units on their cranes (numbering in the hundreds) and have had no accidents since. I suspect that the reasoning for the pumpers refusal to use them is that they fear a power line strike on a unit that they have NOT put a Sigalarm on. The Plaintiff's lawyer would then hammer them for NOT having a unit on that particular machine. As effective as our justice system is; sometimes there is no justice there. If you owned 800 or 900 machines, like B&B or 500 or600 like Pumpco you can see what an ass whipping it would be to pay for the units and instilation. At the same time I can see no good reason for a company with just a few machines to NOT have them on. They work, they save lives and you and your insurance company will be glad that you had one on........... when. |

I have to put my two cents in here. Seems a little Dejavue! I had a conversation about 6 months ago with an executive from the above mentioned pump company about this very subject and why they are not on all the pumps. I simply stated what a great device why are they not on all the pumps??? I was told that if installed it would lead to operator complaceny with regards to power lines and then if the device failed u r ------? Then of course there was the cost factor ( I'm thinking to myself how much did that last fry job/lawsuit cost) duh! Whatever, I could go on and on, but I think it's a great idea in addition to checks and balances already in place. It should be a standard adopted by the ACPA. |

Neither Todd nor I were there to listen to this conversation with KCP & Sany. After the show is over I plan to find out for sure; I will tell you the real McDeal. As far as the operators depending on the warning system; that is no more true than you wish it was. Anyone stupid enough to boom into a power line would be helped by this device. The majority of operators would never know it was there because they don't get that close. Yea, it is a $$$ deal. |

Really great show picks, thanks a bunch.The TECHNO-VIKING!! lATEST UPDATE ON THE SIGALARM DEAL: Just spoke to Todd right after his conversation with Mr. Young of KCP. Conversation was that what was alleged to have happened was not quite accurate in the details. It was more of a statement of fact that Pumpco would not purchase any equipment with the Sigalarm unless and until it had been tested by a certified lab as to its effectiveness and reliability; and yes, there is a big monetary issue. So that is the latest... and not the last of this subject. |
