SCHWING INTERACTIVE TOOLS SIMPLIFY SERVICE 2005
“How do you take a huge machine and make the service manageable?” asks Phil Serre, training manager at Schwing America, Inc. Phil answers the question in two ways: Attend a Schwing service school and use the tools that Schwing’s training and multi-media department provides. The latest of these tools are the S 58 SX/S61 SX hydraulic setting Cds that are also available for all current Schwing boom models.
Adult learning principles dictate that people learn by seeing and doing. The best way to do this is to attend a week-long Schwing Service School held at the factory’s dedicated classroom. Here, students benefit from hands-on training with actual pump components. After absorbing huge amounts of information at the school, students are sent home with interactive Cds that use voice prompts, animated illustrations, text and an easy to navigate format to supplement the service manual.
Each Cd is specific to a boom pump model with every pump kit available for that model included on the disk. Utilizing the Cd, service personnel at a standard computer get the benefit of reading the service procedure, seeing an animation of the procedure and hearing a voice talk them through the sequence of the service. Illustrations and text of the procedure can be printed for easy reference at the pump. The Cds are available in several languages.
In addition to hydraulic settings, similar Cds are available for controllers. These utilize electrical schematics that can be zoomed in on to translate a symbol to an actual component. Tracing circuits is simplified using a split screen technique that allows users to click on the schematic and see where the component is actually located. Troubleshooting sequences allow simple tracking of a problem through an interactive process that utilizes prompts of yes/no to track a problem.
Schwing’s comprehensive training department also produces video tapes and posters to assist in the service of the company’s broad line of concrete pumps. A schedule of Schwing Schools can be found at www.schwing.com. The training department also conducts custom training at customer locations.
