This person is typically the individual that is the hose man. His signals are to be followed by the operator in all cases unless and until by his following them would result in the boom’s movement or location would create a job-site hazard or dangerous condition or any other un-safe condition. The operator always has the right and the duty to shut off the pump and ‘hold fast’ if the signal man is giving any signal that would result in any of these dangerous conditions. The pump operator is always the final arbiter in any safety decision made during the pour. He should consider the signal mans signals to be self-serving.
