U.S. Representative Betty McCollum Visits Schwing America 2002
U.S. House of Representative Betty McCollum recently paid a visit to the headquarters of Schwing America, Inc in White Bear, MN. Schwing America president Tom Anderson who wanted an opportunity to discuss issues facing the concrete pumping industry prompted Rep. McCollum’s visit. McCollum and Anderson toured the 300,000-sq. ft. facility to see the manufacturing facility of the largest concrete pump manufacturer in North America. McCollum was particularly impressed with the Schwing paint booth which is the largest of its type in North America. Other stops on the tour included the machining center, weld shop and training center.
Some of the topics discussed included the new IRS Proposal to Limit Highway Tax Exemption for Mobile Machinery and safety issues related to the operation of concrete pumps. "Whenever we have a forum related to operator safety we will take every opportunity to express our views, " Anderson stated, "Safety has always been the number one priority at Schwing. We invest in it, we teach it and we design it in."
McCollum took several opportunities to speak with Schwing production employees during her tour.
